As others said, the buckle is just wacky. But once you figure it out, I guess it's the same as using a normal buckle. The cushioning in the footbed is really nice. I think these shoes would have been comfortable except they didn't stay tight on my heel (maybe due to the weird buckle not making it tight enough?).
